Heh. Ah, yes. I do love me some magical girl shows, and I've been watching Suite Pretty Cure, the latest entry in that franchise. It's not at all as good as Heartcatch, nor even as good as Splash Star. But it's definitely been improving over the past few episodes, I'd say (even though the villains remain ridiculous and laughable *even for Pretty Cure*), and almost entirely because of all the homoerotic cat angst.

You heard me.

*SPOILERS FOLLOW* (but I mean, this is Pretty Cure and not Madoka--most of the big reveals are not exactly a surprise)

Yes, so, the leader of the bad guys' "away team" in Suite Pretty Cure is, for the first 20 odd episodes of the show, a cat named Seiren (she's the grey or purple cat up there who's rocking a fluffy white ruff). She used to be on the side of the good guys and used to be best friends with the Pretty Cures' mascot character for the season, Hummy (she's the pink and white cat up there). Pretty Cure's enemy-to-friend switches are always broadly telegraphed from the very beginning; it's been pretty obvious from the start that Seiren was going to switch sides (again) eventually.

Anyhow, in episode 21 of Suite Precure Seiren had her big Darth Vader vs. Emperor Palpatine moment (I mean, basically--the bad guys were threatening Hummy, and she didn't want them to make her *best friend* (ahem) cry) and...yeah. In order to protect Hummy, she turned into the third Pretty Cure, Cure Beat, the lady on the right up there. I should note, Seiren's a cat, but she's always had a human form as well as a cat form. FOR THE SAKE OF MY SANITY I do hope that Hummy will eventually be given a human form too...IT WOULD ONLY MAKE SENSE since AFAIK they are both supposed to be the same sort of creature. But I will not lie, I will probably keep shipping Hummy with Seiren regardless. (Hey, as any of you who watch me elsewhere may know, I've shipped worse. :D)

EEEEEEEEEEE this is so adorable! And I ship them too, as much as that kind of breaks my brain.

YAY you know what I'm talking about! :D I was following Suite in a desultory "Hey, it has pretty colors and ruffles and I'm kinda curious to find out who Muse is, and at least if I'm not too emotionally involved in it it can't BREAK MY HEART like Heartcatch" way, at first, but now I think I'm following it seriously, and mainly for the cats. HELP.

Well at least cat-shipping isn't unheard-of in Magical Girl shows. I mean Sailor Moon had Luna and Artemis. At any rate, I'm hoping that Hummy has a human form. :|

It's REALLY not unheard of. :D I guess Yes! Pretty Cure is still not fully subbed into English, but as I understand it, basically all of the mascots have human forms, *and* have either canon relationships or UST with the girls. (In particular, I understand that there's a squirrel mascot who turns into a bishonen, and...ahahaha yeah)

Then Tokyo Mew Mew, of course...Ichigo has a habit of picking up a new minor love interest almost every other episode, and in one of these episodes, she gets stuck in her cat form! And then she gets hit on and chased by some big orange cat who looks like stalker!Garfield! (I'm really not kidding about this) And then at the last moment what I can only describe as a bishonen tom cat (looks a little like Tramp from Lady and the Tramp, to the point where I'd almost swear the reference was intentional) leaps out to defend her, and by the end of the episode turns her back into her human form by kissing her. Then there's a whole plot gimmick that picks up from this episode on where Ichigo's got to chase down random creatures and kiss them on the lips every time she wants to change back into her human form.

And I still remember back around the beginning of Madoka, when people were speculating that the little black cat whom Madoka holds in the OP might be Homura's True Identity...and I was prepared to ship that anyway, too. (And have 'em go on double dates with Fakir and Ahiru from Princess Tutu. :D)

Oh god, Yes Precure 5 is hilarious because three of the mascots have relationships/UST with the girls, and the fourth mascot is female and has LesYay with another one of the girls. And the main girl's boyfriend a) is an adorable tanuki-looking mascot thing, b) who can turn into a bishonen, and c) is also the girls' middle school teacher. Three failsafe teenage-girl fetishes rolled into one. I love the scene where she first sees him turn into the tanuki (by accident) and instead of freaking out or wondering what the hell is going on, she just glomps him and squees over how KAWAIIIIIIIIII he is.

And what a coincidence, I just read that volume of TMM a couple of weeks ago! And lol @ Ichigo's ability to attract harems regardless of what species she is. Kind of reminds me of that really batshit insane episode of Sailor Moon where Luna gets chased by a horde of cats and then gets rescued by this really fat green cat named Hercules. Who turns out to be the Monster/Victim-of-the-Week? Idk, but Sailor Moon Abridged had a field day with that one.

:D God, I really want to watch Yes! Precure 5 once it finally gets subbed. (They're working on it at a pretty good clip these days, so it shouldn't be too much longer. Same goes for Fresh Precure.) I've heard about this magical bishonen squirrel. Also the Milky Rose/Karen thing. Heh.

And now that I think about it I haven't seen Sailor Moon all the way through, not to mention not having read the manga. I think I've seen all of Stars and all of S, but only a smattering of the other seasons. Clearly I should get on that, because that also sounds amazing.
